Torrelles de Foix is getting ready for a new Festa Major (town festival), from Friday 21 to Tuesday 25 August, with a wide and varied programme that combines the most traditional events with cultural and leisure activities for all ages.
Friday 21
The Festa Major will begin at 22:00 in Plaça Lluís Companys with the opening speech (pregó) and the handover of the pubillatge (the festival's young representatives), led by the Associació Cívica del Santuari de Foix. This will be followed by the Nit de Foc (fire night) with the Diables Inferis de Torrelles de Foix. The night will continue with two tribute concerts: Hola Raffaella (Raffaella Carrà) and Son de Rosas (La Oreja de Van Gogh). In Plaça Pere Torrents there will be CerkaTaskes with the Toquem Toquem brass band, and the day will end with the Aftercerka with DJ Jonnathan Gómez.
Saturday 22
The morning will begin with the 9th Baixada d'Andròmines (homemade vehicle race), organised by ADF Alt Foix, and the Vermut Vintage with DJ de la Piere. In the afternoon there will be a concert by Coral Foix, the Festa Major football match between CE Torrellenc and La Martinenca, and a street parade. At night, Orquestra Vancouver will take the stage and, from midnight, the Empalmada Jove youth party with the band Miops and Festa Pandora Room.
Sunday 23
Matines (early-morning festive wake-up) and the pétanque championship, the Rediversió foam party by Set de So, a cap-decorating workshop and face painting, a concert and dance with Orquestra La Nova Blanes and, in the evening, the tamborinada (drum parade) and correfoc (fire run) with Diables Inferis and guest groups Sexes Foc and Els Cabrons. The night will end with the Versots Diabòlics (satirical devil verses) and a dance with La Nova Blanes.
Monday 24 and Tuesday 25
Monday will focus on children and families, with bouncy castles and entertainment in the morning and a mountain bike gymkhana in the afternoon. On Tuesday 25, the feast day of Sant Genís, the festival will close with the traditional events. See the programme for full details.
